Name: Jack
Age:18 19 20 21 22 23 24
Birthdate: February 19th, 606 AR
Blood Type: O+
Class: Fighter -> Berserker
Country: Kanemoria
Weapons: Axes [C], Swords [E]
Languages: [Fluent] Trade
Family: [Father] Jeffrey, [Mother] Vanessa
History
He was born a bastard to a ferryboat worker and the whore he frequently visited who ran out of the special tea she needed. His father was too compassionate to leave him with a woman who wouldn't be able to afford to keep him. He grew up on a ferryboat going up, and down the Shanen River, and in all of the towns along the way. His father rented a room above a tavern in Salinda on a yearly basis, and that's the only place Jack could ever really call home.
When he was old enough, he began working with his father aboard the ferry. He earned barely anything at all from all of his work. His father's boss didn't like children around, and liked the idea of giving them any gold whatsoever even less. He grew up working by day, and learning when the sun was down. He wasn't completely uneducated, but besides language, he had very little education.
As he grew further, he started to become even more like his father. At fifteen he found himself frequenting the whorehouses in ports they pulled into. He soon realised that he was turning into his father, something he was completely opposed to doing. He summed up the things about his father that he didn't want to become: someone who worked at the same job their whole life, and someone who couldn't be bothered to try to pick up women the old fashioned way. He swore off ever going to another brothal, and hit the road after saying a rushed goodbye to his father.
Faced with a lack of employment, he turned to a profession that he knew to be in demand; he began escorting travellers along the gilderoy pass. Being the simple man he was, he picked up the simple man's weapon--an axe. For a long time the route between Mallorea and Norey became his life. New faces every couple of months, encounters with bandits, trials involving extensive flooding, and all of it was his. While at times he thought of regressing back to old habits, and he had far less comfort through the nights, he persisted at making himself a person free from his past. He was a sinner, but by Dragons, he was his own sinner.
So it was in the middle of this past summer, where the rains did seem a little worse than normal, he found himself joining up with a band of people he knew to be bandits. He would have objected to doing this if they were like the bandits he faced in the untamed wilderness of rocks to the north, but these men had managed to make it into the city without any trouble. He figured they were at least somewhat civilised bandits, and he did need a safe place to ride out the storms. The streets weren't safe, even for someone with a weapon.
After the storm flattened the north of the city, he was glad he was with a group going far far away. At least he hoped they were going far far away. The leader intimidated him, but seemed like a nice enough guy. He started going out of his way to impress the guy, even though all the other guys thought he was a suck-up. Some time later all that work payed off in being asked to do a very important mission. He was asked to tail a group of people he'd never met before as they went into Atsiria, and report his findings back to the leader when they came back.
It sounded like a very strange thing to do at the time, but a year ago he would have thought a storm ripping apart his country would never happen. He knocked out a guy who was a crewman on the boat on the morning before they were to launch, and posed as the man's brother filling in for him because he was sick. This method has backfired slightly, as the man wasn't exactly the best crewman the captain had met. He remains hopeful that he will be accepted into the group once they reach Razen to fulfill his obligations, and then whatever happens will happen.
Personality
Jack is, at first glance, an easy going guy who is just out to make a buck in any way he can. He may not have very many layers, but he doesn't think a person needs layers to feel complete. Simplicity is next to Dragonliness. Or whatever is most important to Jack, as he doesn't really do anything to follow the Dragons.
His view on life is that it should be enjoyed to its fullest, so long as you can afford it. He generally can't afford to enjoy life to its fullest, and so he takes whatever he can get when it comes along. He likes being employed, but doesn't like doing any actual work. This is why mercenary work appeals to him: the only time you are working is when both you and your employer are in a life-threating position. Best time to ask for a raise right there! Besides, he's always enjoyed the thrill of fighting, so why not do it for a living?
His view on love is that it's something he's never been in, though he is more than happy to avoid the gushy "romantic love" that is emphasised so much more than he would like. Nice casual sex? Sign him up! His exception to this rule is when love is payed for. He is not his father, never wants to be his father, and his father was a whoremonger. He refuses to be like his father, and doesn't as a rule even like to hang out with women who sell themselves.
His view on happiness is that it comes in the form of money, women, and the occasional mug of alcohol. Occasional is understating it, but he isn't a drunk exactly. Though he wonders if anyone in Kanemoria hasn't had at least one too many once in their lives.
He is somewhat patriotic in the sense that he believes Kanemoria to have the best system in Eire. Having set foot in every country except for Hanalan and Megam on his travels with his father up and down the river, he feels he has enough knowledge about them to make that decision. That Kanemorian spirit that says "hey, I don't have to follow in the footsteps of the people who brought me into this world; I can forge my own path" is something integral to him.
Appearance
He likes to think of himself as a simply man, and so he wears quite simple clothing most of the time. He doesn't look overly imposing for someone who fights for a living, and tends to look loose and at ease with his surroundings. Even under stress he can keep at least the appearance of being calm.
He isn't overly tall, or overly short. He keeps his lighter brown hair at a medium length, and likes to keep it managed when possible. After all, he has to rely on looks for a lot of things in life. He can't be going around looking like a bandit or something.
He is PB'd by that loveable Itsuki Midoriba from Shuffle! His mun doesn't have a thing for H-game PBs, really.
His song is "I'm a Rover" by Great Big Sea
